Squaring Up My Spirit: Finding Peace in the Rhythm of Creating

Mindful Monday: Squaring Up My Spirit

Last week was anything but restful.

It started with a twist—my spouse was supposed to return Friday but shifted his arrival to Wednesday, and I found out on Monday. The change rattled me more than I admitted. I was excited, sure—but also bracing myself. His presence often comes with expectations I can’t seem to meet without breaking pieces of myself.

Monday was steeped in taxes and estate calls—heavy, draining things. But tucked in between those burdens was a moment of peace. I stepped into my sewing studio and began squaring up my Lilo blocks. It’s not my favorite step in the piecing process, but that day it felt like meditation. The rhythm of trimming edges, aligning lines—it became a way to stitch myself back together. I needed that. I needed the simplicity, the familiarity, and the quiet hum of something I could control.

The rest of the week spun wildly. From birthday demands to a shattered anniversary weekend, it felt like walking through a storm without shelter. I kept hoping he'd show up emotionally, but hope has its own weight when unmet. Still, in the middle of it, I found small moments—hosting my Blue Bee LIVE sale, teaching the Stripology tutorial, rearranging my creative space. Each one reminded me who I am apart from the chaos. Each one was a thread of grounding.

So today, I name it: I felt most present and whole when I was creating—when I was choosing simplicity, rhythm, and honest expression. Squaring up blocks. Teaching. Being in my studio. That’s where I found myself again.
